ASU, Sejong University strengthen academic partnership

Arizona State University’s academic partnership with Sejong University in Seoul, South Korea, was reaffirmed and strengthened through a recent visit to its Graduate School of Business from Ajay Vinze, ASU associate vice provost at Graduate Education.

During his visit, Vinze spoke with Sejong University President Koo Shin and dean of the university’s School of Business Jun Yon-wook about the progress of previously-established agreements for general collaboration and International Accelerated Degree Programs (IADPs).

They also discussed the completion of a new IADP agreement between the W. P. Carey School and Sejong University’s School of Business.

Vinze’s visit to Seoul was publicized in South Korea by its leading daily newspaper, The Chosun Ilbo (“Korea Daily”), which featured an interview with him on the front page of the business section in their Jan. 2 edition.

In the interview, Vinze discussed ASU’s partnership with Sejong University and how rapidly developing technology is impacting business, business education and the potential relationships between these changes.

Rapid advances in information technology have brought fundamental changes,” he told the paper. “We’ve been able to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of graduate business education at W. P. Carey by proactively including contemporary technology drivers into our business programs.

Last year we augmented our traditional MBA options with new programs such as master of science in business analytics and master of science in global logistics, which integrate cutting-edge issues related to technology, such as big data and global logistics. These new programs leverage technology and innovation in the business context.”

Vinze oversees the Office of International Initiatives at Graduate Education through which many of ASU’s general collaboration agreements, and all IADP agreements, are established with select partner universities around the world. He also serves as a professor and as associate dean for international programs at the W. P. Carey School of Business.

General collaboration agreements formally express the mutual intent of ASU and a non-U.S. institution to work together in meaningful ways to enhance academic-centered international opportunities for students, faculty and researchers. Building on the foundations of general collaboration agreements, ASU and its partners are working to create more sustainable and strategically-sound international programs and opportunities.

ASU and Sejong University have a general collaboration agreement upon which Sejong University’s Graduate School of Business and ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business were able to establish an IADP which offers four different master’s degree options.

General collaborations and international program agreements, of which IADPs are just one example, have been established between ASU and premier universities in several other countries. International Initiatives at Graduate Education is actively pursuing many more as it works to strategically increase the diversity, quality and sustainability of ASU’s international partnerships.
